Ethernet patch cables generally refer to cables with factory terminated connectors such as RJ45. They are supplied as a finished assembly ready to be used in a network, which makes them extremely popular in minimising installation times. One downside however is they are supplied in a given measured length, which can mean storing a number of different lengths to ensure each project has the right lengths available. They differ from bulk supplied cable which is typically on a reel/drum/spool so that it can be unwound to the required length and installed.
