Antel, short for Administración Nacional de Telecomunicaciones, is a state-owned telecommunications company in Uruguay. It was established in 1974 with the aim of providing the country with telecommunications services. As a fully owned entity of the Uruguayan government, Antel holds a monopoly over landline telephony and internet services in the country. The company also operates in the mobile telephony sector, where it competes with private corporations.
