Bahrain Telecommunication Company BSC, widely recognised as Batelco, is the primary telecommunications company operating in Bahrain. Batelco was established in 1981 with its headquarters situated in Bahrain, where it continues to maintain its principal operations. The company is publicly traded and listed on the Bahrain Bourse. The current Chairman of the Board is Abdulla Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, marking the company's corporate leadership. As a significant player in the telecommunications sector, Batelco is one of the five Internet service providers in Bahrain.

Batelco 3G Network

The company launched 3G services on B1 (2100 MHz) in December 2007, upgraded to DC-HSPA+ in June 2012.

Batelco 4G Network

In February 2013 the company switched on its 4G LTE network over B3 (1800 MHz). Batelco announced plans for LTE-A, marketed as 4G+, in June 2016 however the rollout is ongoing. In partnership with Ericsson the company recently conducted 5G trials in a real world environment over a live network, including testing speed, latency and beam steering, with ‘record speeds’ of 25 Gbps achieved.

Batelco 5G Network

Batelco announced partnership with Ericsson in April 2019 to begin roll-out of its 5G network. In June 2019 Batelco launched Bahrain's first 5G network. Providing data rates up to 1.5 Gbps, the network is understood to use an n78 (3500 MHz) carrier.
