Cable & Wireless Panama is a telecommunications company with operations in Panama. The company was formed when Cable & Wireless plc demerged in 2010, creating two distinct entities. Cable & Wireless Panama is currently owned by Liberty Latin America, a telecommunications company based in Boulder, Colorado. This acquisition occurred following the split of Liberty Latin America from Liberty Global in 2018. Cable & Wireless Panama's history can be traced back to 1852, with the establishment of the English and Irish Magnetic Telegraph Company. Over time, this company amalgamated with numerous other telegraph, radio and telecommunications companies, eventually forming the basis for Cable & Wireless Communications.
In 1997, Cable & Wireless bought a 50% share of the Panamanian INTEL (Instituto Nacional de Telecomunicaciones), resulting in the formation of Cable & Wireless Panama. The company has undergone several ownership changes since its inception, most notably its acquisition by Liberty Global in 2016 and its subsequent ownership by Liberty Latin America in 2018. Cable & Wireless Panama operates as part of a larger network of brands under the Cable & Wireless banner, but maintains its specific operations within the Panamanian market.
