3G Network
Claro Nicaragua launched its 3G services using UMTS technology in April 2008. The network utilised the 1900 MHz (PCS) and 850 MHz frequency bands for UMTS services. The 3G network was upgraded to HSPA+ in May 2012 which provided enhanced mobile data services, supporting faster internet access. As of 2023, Claro Nicaragua announced the sunset date for its 3G network, scheduled for 31st December 2026. This decision aligns with the global trend of phasing out older network technologies to make way for more advanced 4G and 5G networks.

5G Network
As of December 2024, Claro Nicaragua has not yet launched commercial 5G services. However, the Nicaraguan Telecom Institute (Telcor) has been actively involved in spectrum clearing and planning for 5G services, aiming to improve mobile broadband services and support the government's National Plan to Fight Poverty and for Human Development 2022-2026. There have been no public announcements regarding specific 5G trials or testing conducted by Claro Nicaragua. The company is expected to participate in future spectrum auctions and trials as the regulatory framework and market readiness for 5G technology develop in Nicaragua.
