The Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogotá (ETB) is a key telecommunications company in Colombia, primarily operating in Cundinamarca, Tolima and Villavicencio. The company was established on August 28, 1884, by a Cuban named José Raimundo Martínez, who founded the Colombian Telephone Company, or "La Compañia Colombiana de Telefonos (CTC)". Initially headquartered in the Arrubla Galleries in Bogotá, the company resumed service as The Bogotá Telephone Company following a fire in 1900 that destroyed its original premises. In 1932, the city administration took control of the telephone service, leading to the creation of the Telephone Company of Bogotá in 1940, a decentralised, wholly city-owned entity. The company underwent a significant rebranding in 1992, becoming the Telecommunications Company of Bogotá (ETB) to reflect its diversified activities. In 1997, the company transitioned to an action-based company, with the Capital District of Bogotá as its majority partner. Despite a proposed sale of ETB's shares to an international strategic partner in 1998, the company remained a mixed capital company, with around 1,000 shareholders among its employees, former employees and pensioners.
ETB entered the mobile network services market in 2014.
4G Network
The company secured 30 MHz of paired spectrum in the AWS band after a successful bid at the June 2013 spectrum auction. ETB subsequently launched B4 (1700 MHz) 4G LTE in October 2014.
