Geocell is a mobile communication brand based in Georgia. The company was initially established in 1996 as an independent entity, resulting from a joint Georgian and Turkish investment. The Georgian faction maintained control over the company. Geocell launched its 900 MHz GSM network in March 1997, becoming the first GSM operator in the Georgian market. In 2001, the company expanded its operations by acquiring Georgia's third-largest GSM provider, "GT Mobile", which was subsequently renamed as its second branch, "Lai-Lai", and began operating on the 1800 MHz frequency.
Geocell, which offers standard GSM and GPRS services, also holds a UMTS license (2100 MHz) enabling 3G technologies including HSDPA. The company was part of the TeliaSonera Group from 2007 until 2018. Since 2018, Geocell has been owned by Silknet.
