The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) is a fixed local exchange carrier based in Guyana, South America. It is the largest provider of telecommunication services in the country. GTT was created as a private limited liability company on June 18, 1990, following an agreement between the Government of Guyana (GOG) and Atlantic Tele-Network (ATN). ATN acquired 80 percent of the issued share capital, while the GOG retained 20 percent, which it later sold to the Hong Kong Golden Telecoms Company Limited.
The predecessor to GTT, the government-owned Guyana Telecommunication Corporation (GTC), was dissolved in line with this agreement. GTT began operations under new management as a subsidiary of ATN on January 28, 1991. The company operates under licenses granted under the Post and Telegraph Act of Guyana, and its operations and conduct are regulated by the Telecoms Act of 1990, the Public Utilities Commission Act of 1990, and the GOG/ATN Agreement.
