Hormuud Telecom launched its 3G network in Somalia during late December 2012 as part of its efforts to enhance connectivity and provide advanced telecommunications services. The 3G network facilitated faster internet speeds and improved mobile communication capabilities in Mogadishu initially, later expanding nationally.

Hormuud Telecom began deploying its 4G network in Somalia in 2015, significantly enhancing mobile internet connectivity across the nation. By 2024, the company reported that 70% of Somalia's population had access to 4G connectivity. The deployment of the 4G network was a crucial step in providing faster and more reliable internet services, supporting mobile money services, and facilitating business and leisure activities. Hormuud Telecom's 4G network coverage aimed to reach 88% of urban populations and approximately 70% of rural communities by the end of 2024.

On March 21, 2024, Hormuud Telecom launched its 5G network in Somalia, reported to be the first commercial launch in the country. The 5G services were initially made available in major cities, including Mogadishu, Kismayo, Galkayo, Baidoa, Dhusamareeb, Beledwayne, Afgoye, Merca, and Dhobley, with coverage reportedly reaching up to 81% of the populace. The launch event was attended by the President of Somalia, the Minister of Telecommunications, and Members of Parliament, highlighting the government's commitment to leveraging technology for economic growth and stability. The 5G network promises unparalleled speeds and reliability, supporting a range of applications from healthcare and education to agriculture.
