Kcell is a prominent telecommunications company based in Kazakhstan. Founded in 1998, it has played a significant role in the development and provision of mobile telecommunications services throughout the country. The company is a subsidiary of Kazakhtelecom, the national telecommunications operator in Kazakhstan. Ownership of Kcell Kazakhtelecom is shared, with Kazakhtelecom holding a majority stake in the business.

The company operated a mobile network called Altel until its merger with Tele2, to which Kazakhtelecom operates in joint venture with Tele2 Group. In February 2018 Kazakhtelecom announced the construction of a national IoT network consisting of LoRa, Zigbee, and LTE technologies operated through its Tele2 holdings. In December 2018 Kazakhtelecom acquired a 75% controlling stake in mobile network operator Kcell from previous owners Telia Company and Fintur Holdings (Turkcell-Telia joint venture).

3G Network

3G UMTS over B1 (2100 MHz) was launched in December 2010. 3G DC-HSPA+ was implemented January 2013.

    4G Network

    LTE services were launched in September 2016 over the B3 (1800 MHz) and B20 (800 MHz) bands, upgraded to LTE-A in early 2017 supporting carrier aggregation of the two bands to provide peak data rates in excess of 300 Mbps.

    In July 2019 Kcell announced the launch of a pilot NB-IoT network in Almaty.
