3G Network

M1 launched its 3G network on December 6, 2006, with an initial peak speed of 10.8 Mbps, which was later evolved to 21 Mbps HSPA+. The UMTS900 network was commercially launched on September 30, 2013, with a nationwide target set for November 1, 2013. The company continued to upgrade its 3G network capabilities over the years. However, in alignment with Singapore's transition to newer technologies, M1 announced the shutdown of its 3G network, which commenced on August 1, 2024. This move was part of a broader initiative to migrate users to 4G and 5G networks, with more than 99.9% of users having already transitioned to these advanced networks by the time of the shutdown.

    4G Network

M1 was an early adopter of 4G technology in Singapore. The company launched its commercial 75 Mbps LTE services in the financial district on June 21, 2011, using the 2.6 GHz spectrum, later adding LTE1800. Nationwide coverage using dual-band was announced on September 15, 2012. By early 2014, M1 had raised its network speed to a peak of 150 Mbps. On December 2, 2014, M1 commercially launched its 300 Mbps LTE-Advanced network, which was available in more than 95% of indoor and most outdoor areas. VoLTE was introduced on April 8, 2015. In January 2016, M1 achieved over 1 Gbps downlink and 130 Mbps uplink speeds in a laboratory trial by combining 4x4 MIMO, 3CCA downlink, 2CCA uplink, and 256QAM, using a Cat 14 prototype device. M1 also participated in the 4G spectrum auction, obtaining 80MHz for a total price of SGD 104 million, with spectrum rights commencing on July 1, 2015, for the 2.5GHz band and in April 2017 for the 1800MHz band.

      5G Network

M1 has been at the forefront of 5G development in Singapore, being the first telco in the nation to embark on 5G trials as early as 2018. The company launched its True 5G Standalone (SA) network in an exclusive market trial on August 4, 2021. This trial allowed both existing and new mobile customers to access the 5G SA technology, which was built on standalone hardware, offering speeds up to 4 times faster than 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) networks and 10 times faster than existing 4G networks. M1 has also been involved in more than 15 5G use cases and trials across consumer, enterprise, and government sectors, leveraging emerging technologies like IoT to advance Singapore's digital economy and Smart Nation plans. The company, along with other major operators, was awarded licenses to operate a 5G SA network, with spectrum allocations including the 26 GHz and 28 GHz bands for 5G mmWave operations. The company was the first in the world to deploy a VoNR network.
