The Telecommunication Company of Iran (TCI) is a fixed-line incumbent operator established in 1971. Its services span fixed telephony, DSL, and data services for both residential and business customers nationwide. TCI has 30 provincial subsidiaries and two brands: MCI (Mobile Company of Iran) and FCI (Fixed-line Company of Iran). These brands provide fixed-line telephone service, data services, mobile services, high-speed internet, and are set to offer wireless services. In 2016, TCI announced the merger of its provincial subsidiaries and MCI into a single business unit to capitalise on powerful synergies and maintain leading positions in the national telecoms market. TCI has a monopoly over Iran's fixed-line infrastructure and was, until 2010, Iran's largest cellular operator (MCI) and Internet service provider and data communication operator (DCI).
