3G Network

Movistar Peru launched its 3G network on May 22, 2009, utilising UMTS technology. The network initially operated on the 850 MHz (B5) band, providing enhanced mobile data services compared to the previous 2G networks. The introduction of 3G HSPA+ technology allowed Movistar to offer faster internet speeds and improved connectivity, which was a significant upgrade for mobile users in Peru. This launch was part of a broader strategy to enhance mobile services and expand coverage across the country.

    4G Network

Movistar Peru began its 4G LTE network rollout on January 2, 2014, in parts of Lima using the AWS spectrum (1700/2100 MHz). This launch marked a significant milestone in the company's efforts to provide high-speed mobile internet services. The 4G network was later expanded to include the 700 MHz (B28) band, which was auctioned in 2016. This expansion allowed Movistar to improve coverage and offer faster data speeds to its customers. By July 25, 2016, Movistar had announced the activation of 4G+ LTE-Advanced technology, achieving downlink speeds of 250 Mbps by aggregating the 700 MHz and AWS spectrum. The company also launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) in Lima in July 2016, further enhancing its service offerings.

      5G Network

Movistar launched 5G fixed wireless services in March 2021. The Peruvian government planned a spectrum tender in January 2025 to award 5G frequencies, including 300 MHz in the 3.3-3.4 GHz and 3.6-3.8 GHz bands, as well as 800 MHz in the 25.9-26.7 GHz band. Movistar Peru, along with other major operators, was expected to participate in this tender to secure the necessary spectrum for 5G deployment.
