MTN Sudan, a subsidiary of the MTN Group, is a significant player in the telecommunications sector in Sudan. The MTN Group, a multinational telecommunications provider, operates in over 20 countries across Africa and the Middle East. MTN Sudan, then known as Areeba, was launched in September 2005 after winning the second GSM license in Sudan in September 2004 through its legal entity Bashair Telecom. By the end of 2008, MTN Sudan had established over 8,500 points of sale across the country, serving a subscriber base of approximately 3 million. It is the smallest of the three mobile networks operating in Sudan.
