Orange is the largest mobile network operator in Mali. The state-owned telecoms provider Sonatel began building the country's second mobile network under the brand Ikatel in August 2002. Ikatel was partially purchased by Orange Group in November 2006, with Orange reporting ownership of around 29.65%.

4G Network
4G LTE services began around March 2018 after Orange group secured a universal operating licence for €152 million. Orange Mali advises that it uses LTE-A marketed as 4G+ which initially included TDD-LTE using RAN hardware supplied by Huawei. The network comprises B3 (1800 MHz), B20 (800 MHz), and B40 (2300 MHz) bands.
