SFR Mayotte is a subsidiary of SFR, a French telecommunications company originally established in 1987. The parent company, SFR, was created by Compagnie Générale des Eaux (CGE) to deliver a 1G mobile phone service. In 1996, CGE separated SFR and other telecommunications activities into a new holding company named SFR-Cegetel. This entity became a competitor in fixed-line telecommunication services and a significant Internet Service Provider (ISP). For a time, Vodafone held a 44% share in SFR, but sold its entire share back to SFR's founding parent company, Vivendi, in April 2011. In 2014, Vivendi announced plans to sell its SFR division, eventually entering exclusive negotiations with Altice/Numericable. By late 2015, Numericable Outremer became SFR Caraïbe, and in February 2016, Numericable was rebranded as SFR in Belgium and Luxembourg. SFR Mayotte operates in the Indian Ocean territory of Mayotte, providing telecommunications services to the region.
