StarHub Limited is a Singaporean multinational telecommunications conglomerate, and one of the major telcos operating in the country. It was founded in 1998 and is listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX). StarHub was awarded the license to provide fixed networks and mobile services on 23 April 1998, with the government announcing that the telecommunications sector in Singapore would be completely liberalised by 2002. The company was officially launched on 1 April 2000, with ST Telemedia, Singapore Power, BT Group and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) as its major shareholders.
In 2001, Singapore Power divested its shares in StarHub and sold its 25.5% stake to ST Telemedia. BT Group also divested its 18% stake. On 1 October 2002, StarHub merged with Singapore's sole cable television operator, Singapore Cable Vision, acquiring SCV's cable television and broadband internet access operations. The company was publicly listed on the Singapore Exchange on 13 October 2004. Over the years, StarHub's ownership has seen changes, with various stakeholders entering and exiting. As of 2022, StarHub announced its proposal to buy a majority 50.1 per cent stake in rival Internet service provider MyRepublic's fibre broadband business for residential and enterprise customers in Singapore, which was approved by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).
