Sure South Atlantic is a telecommunications company operating in Saint Helena, Ascension, Tristan da Cunha. The company's history traces back to the purchase of Guernsey Telecoms by the international division of Cable & Wireless plc in 2002, which was rebranded as Sure in July 2007. The company expanded its operations to Jersey in 2004 and launched the Sure brand along with mobile services in 2006. In 2010, Sure became part of Cable & Wireless Communications following a corporate split of Cable & Wireless plc. Ownership of the company changed hands in 2013 when it was bought by Batelco Islands Limited, a subsidiary of the Bahrain telecommunications company, Batelco. Since then, Sure South Atlantic has continued to provide telecommunications services in Saint Helena, Ascension, Tristan da Cunha under the ownership of Batelco.
4G Network
After years of setbacks, in September 2015 the company rolled out 2G 900 MHz services and B3 (1800 MHz) LTE for mobile data services on Saint Helena Island. Sure does not provide 3G service on the island. Canadian-owned Star Solutions was selected for the rollout due to their experience in deploying remote cellular communications.
