Syriatel is a major telecommunications network provider in Syria, established in January 2000. The company operates from its headquarters located in Damascus. The Syrian Government granted two private firms, including Syriatel, licenses to supply mobile phone services under a Build-own-transfer (BOT) contract that lasted for 15 years. Syriatel introduced 4G speeds in 2017, offering speeds of up to 150 Mb/s under the brand name Super Surf. The ownership of Syriatel lies with Rami Makhlouf, a relative of the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. A significant event occurred on 5 June 2020 when a Syrian court ordered Syriatel to be placed under judicial custody.
3G Network
The company operated a standard 2G GSM service over 900 MHz along with 1800 MHz in dense urban areas, and launched a 3G UMTS HSPA+ over B1 (2100 MHz) in August 2008.
