Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) is a prominent telecommunications company in Malaysia, tracing its origins back to the establishment of the Telecommunications Department of Malaya in 1946. Initially, the company provided fixed-line, radio, and television broadcasting services across the country. In 1968, the Telecommunications Department of Malaya merged with the Telecommunications Department of Sabah and Sarawak to form the Telecommunications Department of Malaysia, also known as Jabatan Telekom Malaysia (JTM). On October 12, 1984, it was rebranded as Telekom Malaysia. TM is a publicly traded state-owned enterprise listed on Bursa Malaysia under the stock code 4863, with its headquarters located in Cyberjaya, Selangor. Over the years, TM has evolved from traditional telecommunications services to become the largest broadband services provider in Malaysia, while still maintaining its fixed-line services.

4G Network

TM's journey into 4G technology began with the commercial launch of its LTE services branded as TMgo in the 850 MHz band 5 on August 8, 2014, in Alor Setar, Kedah. This marked a significant upgrade from the previous 3G services, offering higher data speeds and improved connectivity. TMgo's deployment included plans to convert 1,200 CDMA sites to LTE, with the 2.6 GHz band 7 spectrum earmarked for deployment in densely populated areas. In addition, TM acquired a majority shareholding in Packet One Networks (P1), a WiMAX operator, and rebranded it as webe. P1's network was upgraded with an LTE TDD overlay in the 2.3 GHz band, and planned to roll out TDD in band 40 in the first quarter of 2017. TM's 4G network was rebranded under the Unifi banner in January 2018.

In June 2023 TM announced it would access Maxis's multi-operator core network (MOCN) to enhance 4G connectivity.

    5G Network

As of December 2024, TM had not yet commercially launched its 5G network. However, the company actively participated in the government's initiatives to implement a 5G dual network plan. TM acknowledged the government's decision to establish two 5G networks to handle the growing consumer demand and enhance the benefits of 5G technology for everyone. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) identified the 700 MHz, 3.5 GHz, and 26/28 GHz bands as pioneer spectrum bands for 5G implementation in Malaysia. TM was awarded the 718 MHz to 723 MHz band, coupled with the 773 MHz to 778 MHz band, as part of the spectrum allocation for 5G services. The company supported the government's strategy to drive Malaysia's digital transformation, aiming to improve connectivity, innovation, and economic growth across various sectors.
