Telkomsel, formally known as PT Telekomunikasi Selular, is a leading telecommunications company in Indonesia. The company was established on 26 May 1995, the result of a collaborative effort between PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) and PT Indosat Tbk (Indosat). Over the years, the ownership structure underwent several changes. In 1996, KPN Netherlands and PT Setdco Megacell Asia acquired stakes in Telkomsel. By 2001, Telkom increased its ownership to 77.72% after acquiring Indosat's shares. Singtel Mobile also became a significant shareholder when it acquired KPN and Setdco's shares and further increased its ownership by 12.7% in 2002. Today, Telkomsel is majority-owned by Telkom Indonesia with a 65% stake, while Singtel Mobile holds 35%.

4G Network
Telkomsel first launched a trial network in October 2013 coinciding with the APEC summit. The network was commercially launched in December 2014 using a 5 MHz carrier of B8 (900 MHz), and later adding B3 (1800 MHz) in July 2015. The network was upgraded to LTE-Advanced Pro in December 2016, using 4x4 MIMO and a 20 MHz B3 carrier.
Massive MIMO LTE trials conducted in partnership with ZTE during 2017. 4G coverage reached more than 95% of the population in April 2020. Telkomsel deployed 4G networks in all villages in Indonesia by 2022. B40 (2300 MHz) TDD LTE was used until its refarm into 5G.
Following the 3G shutdown, a B1 (2100 MHz) carrier was launched.

5G Network
Telkomsel has selected Ericsson as its partner for 5G core NFVI rollout. Ericsson sits alongside Cisco and Huawei as the company's 5G partners. 5G NSA services were switched on June 2021, using the n40 (2300 MHz) band. Services were initially limited to Balikpapan, Medan and Surakarta, but quickly expanded to a large number of high density areas.
A second band was activated using n1 (2100 MHz) in DSS with LTE during 2023 following the 3G shutdown.
