Telecom Italia Mobile S.p.A., commonly known as TIM, is an Italian telecommunications company owned by Telecom Italia S.p.A. The company was initially established as a mobile telephony company in 1995 and since 2015, it has expanded its services to include mobile, fixed telephony, and internet services. The company's inception in the Italian mobile telephony market traces back to 1990 with the launch of the TACS network by the Telecom Italia Mobile Radio Services division. In 1995, with a partial demerger from the parent company, Telecom Italia, TIM was born. The company was 63.01% controlled by STET, which was later incorporated into Telecom Italia in 1997. On 14 July of the same year, Telecom Italia Mobile S.p.A., a subsidiary of Telecom Italia S.p.A., was registered with the Court of Turin. Three days later, the company was listed on the Milan Stock Exchange.

3G Network

The company launched its 3G network in May 2006 over the B1 (2100 MHz) band. The network was upgraded to HSPA+ in July 2009 and DC-HSPA+ in March 2012. The network has since been shut down.

    4G Network

    The company launched 4G LTE in November 2012 using B3 (1800 MHz). The network was upgraded to LTE-Advanced in July 2014 with 2C aggregation of a B7 (2600 MHz) carrier. By mid-November 2015 the company had successfully rolled out B20 (800 MHz) in 3C aggregation, providing a 300 Mbps peak DL service.

    TIM Italy implemented gigabit LTE-A Pro in October 2016 by adding a 20 MHz B32 (1500 MHz) supplemental downlink carrier, with 256QAM across the network. In February 2018 its partnership with Huawei saw the company implement 4x4 MIMO with Huawei's flagship 1+1 antenna design.

    In October 2017 TIM announced the commercial launch of its NB-IoT network, operating over the company's B20 (800 MHz) carrier.

      5G Network

      After extensive 5G testing, in June 2019 TIM announced the launch of a limited 5G network in parts of Rome and Turin. Download data rates of up to 2 Gbps are being advertised, with upload speeds up to 300 Mbps. In July 2019 TIM advised 5G was live in Naples and extended 5G coverage to the Italian cities of Matera, Bari, Milan, Bologna, Verona, and Florence by years end.

      In January 2020 TIM announced mmWave services over the 26 GHz band. The company later added DSS 5G onto its 2100 MHz and 700 MHz LTE carriers.
