Unitel is the largest mobile network by subscribers and coverage operating in Lao PDR. The network has been in operation since 2002, formed as a joint venture between state-owned Lao Asia Telecommunication State Enterprise (51%) and Vietnam-based Viettel Group (49%). Viettel is a leading telecommunications group in Vietnam which has invested successfully in 9 countries across 3 continents.

4G Network
4G LTE was launched by Unitel in June 2015 over the B3 (1800 MHz) band. The network was upgraded with the addition of B5 and B7 carriers to enhance capacity and peak data speeds.
