Operation of wireless network equipment on this Australian 6 GHz band is governed by Section 63AA/AB of the Radiocommunications (Low Interference Potential Devices) Class Licence 2015. As this frequency range may also be used by ACMA RALI FX3 point-to-point transmitters, conditions are imposed to ensure interference-free operation.

LIPD Class 2000 legislation permits licence-free operation of RLAN transmitters (such as WiFi-6E devices) between the range of 5925 to 6425 MHz, provided they operate under the conditions outlined below.

Transmitter Rules

Rule Name Conditions Device Types
Radio Local Area Network transmitters, 250 mW
  • The transmitter must only be used indoors.
  • The power spectral density of the transmitter must not exceed 12.5 mW EIRP per MHz.
  • Contention-based protocols for multiple access, such as Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) or Multiple Access Collision Avoidance (MACA), must be implemented.
  • Emissions below 5925 MHz must be no greater than -27 dBm/MHz EIRP.
