Use this tool to estimate the dB loss occurring over your chosen length of coaxial cable. Simply select a cable, enter the length of cable, and frequency in MHz. You can optionally enter VSWR and Power In for additional calculations.
Accuracy of Results
This is a basic coaxial loss calculator with accuracy sufficient for most general RF applications. It relies on manufacturer-supplied k1 and k2 factors:
- k1 - coefficient: characterising the loss in the conductors (takes into account the skin effect), proportional to the root of the frequency,
- k2 - factor: characterising the loss in the dielectric of the internal insulation, proportional to the frequency
VSWR losses are based on ARRL's "Additional Loss Due to SWR" formula, which contains simplifications that limits its accuracy.
