A No. 4 (N4) finish, commonly found on stainless steel, refers to a general-purpose polished finish. This finish is characterised by short, parallel polishing lines, which extend uniformly along the length of the coil. It is obtained by mechanically polishing the metal with a series of progressively finer abrasives. After this, a final light pass is often done with a fine, grit belt or disc to achieve the final finish. The No. 4 finish is popular on electrical cabinets, as well as household and commercial appliances. It is favoured for its ability to hide scratches, fingerprints, and other wear, making it ideal for heavy-use surfaces. It is also easy to clean, which further enhances its suitability for these applications.
