802.3bt Type 3 PoE++

The 802.3bt Type 3 PoE++ standard represents a significant enhancement in the Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology. This standard allows for the delivery of higher power over Ethernet cabling, supporting up to 60 Watts of power at the PSE and 51 Watts of power at the PD (after cable losses). This is a significant increase compared to earlier standards, enabling the operation of more power-hungry devices directly from the network cable. The 802.3bt Type 3 PoE++ standard utilises all four pairs of the Ethernet cable, unlike previous versions which only used two pairs. This not only provides increased power capacity but also allows for improved heat dissipation, reducing the risk of cable overheating. This standard is particularly beneficial for powering devices such as PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) cameras, LED lighting, and digital signage, which require more power than previous PoE standards could deliver. It also simplifies installation, as devices can be powered using the same cable that provides their network connection, eliminating the need for separate power sources. The 802.3bt Type 3 PoE++ standard also includes support for energy-efficient Ethernet, which can reduce power consumption when devices are not in use, contributing to energy savings.
