Much like its counterpart, Band 87, LTE Band 88, labeled as the 410+ band, is structured for the European Union's 400 MHz UHF band planning. Introduced under 3GPP Release 16.2, this band is pivotal for the European Broadband Public Protection and Disaster Relief. The band supports a 5 MHz carrier in a 2x2 setup, facilitating up to 37 Mb/s of total channel capacity. Its capability to maintain connectivity over distances surpassing 100 kilometres positions it as a crucial tool for vast operational terrains encountered by emergency response teams.
Band 88 is limited to a maximum 5 MHz channel size, the maximum practical due to the 450 MHz band's large wavelength.
The band was introduced by the 3GPP in April 2019.
