Alias
TD Unlicensed
The n46 band operates in the 5200 MHz spectrum allowing 5G networks to be established over the 5 GHz unlicensed band. This band uses Time Division Duplexing (TDD) and operates within the globally unlicensed spectrum (often referred to as U-NII in North America). It is of particular interest for technologies that can share the spectrum with existing users, such as WiFi networks, in a manner that is efficient and causes minimal interference. While considered public-use spectrum, the 5 GHz band has strict operating conditions such as power limits to ensure fair-use. The band was released by 3GPP in April 2021 (Rel. 16.5).
