Cosmote Mobile Telecommunications S.A., commonly known as Cosmote, is the largest mobile network operator in Greece. The company was established in April 1998 and reached the milestone of 1 million subscribers within a year. By 2001, Cosmote had grown its customer base to 2.5 million, becoming the leading mobile network operator in Greece. The company is headquartered in Athens and is a fully owned subsidiary of the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE), the incumbent telecommunications provider in Greece. In 2000, Cosmote was listed on the Athens Exchange. However, in November 2007, parent company OTE submitted a voluntary tender offer to acquire the remaining shares of Cosmote. Consequently, Cosmote shares ceased trading on 1 April 2008. In 2015, OTE announced the intention to unify all services under the Cosmote brand, choosing not to adopt the Telekom brand name in the Greek market.
