Movistar Mexico is a major telecommunications provider operating in Mexico. The company is a subsidiary of Telefónica, a Spanish multinational telecommunications company. Movistar Mexico came into existence after Telefónica expanded its operations in Hispanic American countries, following the purchase of the BellSouth mobile operations branch in South America in 2005. Despite being a part of Telefónica's global brand, Movistar Mexico operates independently within the Mexican market.
