3G Network

Slovak Telekom launched its 3G network in Slovakia on August 22, 2006. The network initially provided 21 Mbps HSPA+ services, which were later upgraded to 42 Mbps DC-HSPA+ on October 19, 2011. The company planned trials for 84 Mbps but focused on enhancing its existing services. The 3G network played a crucial role in expanding mobile internet access across Slovakia. However, in line with global trends towards newer technologies, Slovak Telekom began the phased shutdown of its 3G network in October 2023. The shutdown was planned to conclude before Christmas 2023, with the spectrum being repurposed for 4G and 5G services. This transition aimed to improve network capacity and performance, focusing on modern technologies.

Slovak Telekom actively participated in the auctioning of 4G spectrum in Slovakia. The auction, conducted by the regulator TUSR, included frequencies in the 800 MHz, 1800 MHz, and 2.6 GHz bands. Slovak Telekom, alongside other major operators like Orange and O2, expressed interest in these auctions. The company launched its LTE network in several phases beginning November 2013, achieving significant milestones in coverage and speed. The company continued to enhance its network capabilities, launching LTE-Advanced services with speeds up to 375 Mbps in Bratislava by June 23, 2015, and further trials achieving 900 Mbps in August 2016. By October 1, 2016, Slovak Telekom's LTE network reached 85.1% of the Slovak population.
