Telenor Norway is the largest mobile network operator and telecommunications service provider in Norway. The company has operations dating back to 1855, with the first Norwegian telegraph line opened by the Norwegian Telegraph Administration (Telegrafverket). The company remained branded as Telegrafverket until 1969 when it became known as Televerket, Norwegian Telecommunications. Historically state-owned, telecommunications services were privatised in 1994, becoming a publicly traded company and subsequently changing its name to Telenor in 1995.
3G Network
The company began operating 2G GSM services in May 1993 over the 900 and 1800 MHz bands, and launched 3G UMTS over B1 (2100 MHz) in December 2004. 3G services were expanded with the implementation of B8 (900 MHz) and HSPA+ in mid-2011. The network has since been shut down.

4G Network
4G LTE services began in October 2012 over B7 (2600 MHz), initially limited to 75 Mbps (10 MHz). Telenor later added B3 (1800 MHz) and B20 (800 MHz). April 2015 saw the implementation of 300 Mbps LTE-Advanced, using 2C aggregation of B3+B7 or B3+B20 depending on service area. In early 2016 the company activated 3C aggregation of B3+B7+B20, and CA_3A-7C to provide peak data rates of 450 Mbps. Telenor Norway implemented 4X4 MIMO and 256QAM Pre-5G technologies in 2017, taking peak data rates over the gigabit threshold.
Network technologies differ for the Norwegian regions of Svalbard and Jan Mayen. It is noted that Telenor holds 20 MHz of B20 (800 MHz) spectrum in Svalbard.
In September 2018 Telenor launched its NB-IoT network, understood to be using its B20 (800 MHz) carrier.

5G Network
Telenor has established 5G trial agreements with Huawei and in November 2018 launched a 5G pilot program in Kongsberg. The pilot program delivers 5G to residents of Kongsberg via fixed wireless, with peak data rates of up to 10 Gbps available. The Kongsberg test network uses n78 (3500 MHz) and n258 (26 GHz) carriers. The company launched commercial 5G service in March 2020 over the n78 (3500 MHz) band.
