Tigo Paraguay is a subsidiary of Millicom International Cellular SA, a Luxembourg-based telecommunications services provider. Millicom was established on December 14, 1990, by Shelby Bryan, Jan Stenbeck, Telma Sosa, and Olvin Galdamez. The Tigo brand, under which Tigo Paraguay operates, was conceptualised by Millicom in 2004. The company provides a range of digital services including high-speed data, broadband, mobile, cable TV, voice and SMS, Mobile Financial Services, and business communications.
The main shareholder of Millicom is Xavier Niel, a French billionaire who owns 27.13% of the company as of December 31, 2020. Millicom operates in nine Latin American markets, including Paraguay. In 2014, Millicom launched the TIGO Sports Television channel in Paraguay. As of 2023, the main shareholder of Millicom is Atlas Investissement, owned by French billionaire Xavier Niel, who holds a 25.02% stake in the company.
