Wind Tre S.p.A. is an Italian telecommunications company that provides both mobile and fixed telephony services. The company was established on December 31, 2016, following the merger of two Italian telecommunications entities, 3 Italy and Wind Telecomunicazioni. These were previously controlled by CK Hutchison Holdings and VimpelCom respectively. On September 7, 2018, CK Hutchison Holdings became the sole shareholder of Wind Tre after acquiring the remaining 50% stake in the company from VEON, formerly known as VimpelCom.
Despite the merger, Wind Tre retained the Wind, 3 Italy, and Infostrada brands until March 16, 2020, when a rebranding process was initiated. This resulted in the creation of unified brands such as WINDTRE, WINDTRE BUSINESS, and Very Mobile. The latter was introduced on February 24, 2020, as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator to compete with Iliad, ho-mobile, and Kena Mobile. As of 2022, Wind Tre is the leading Italian mobile operator for SIM HUMAN and ranks third after TIM and Vodafone in terms of total active cards.
