U/UTP Ethernet shielding refers to a type of unshielded cable design used in data transmission. The term U/UTP stands for Unshielded/Unshielded Twisted Pair, indicating that this type of cable consists of pairs of wires twisted together without any shielding. Without any shielding, U/UTP cables are more susceptible to external electromagnetic interference (EMI) compared to shielded cable types. Despite this, U/UTP cables are widely used due to their lower cost and ease of installation. They are commonly used in residential and commercial local area networks (LANs), telephone systems, and other data communication systems. U/UTP is standard in Cat5e
ethernet cables, and an option under the Cat6 standard.
